Matthew was born and raised in Halesowen, in the heart of the West Midlands, with Birmingham’s unique artistic scene on his doorstep. He studied Theatre, Film and Television at Aberystwyth University before completing his actor training at East 15 Acting School in 2023. Here he took on roles such as the ruthless Macbeth, wannabe rockstar Slim in Cowboy Mouth and the charming Victor in an adaptation of Yerma.

He revels playing in bold new takes on classic texts, such as his professional debut of a modern political spin on Hamlet where he crafted a Blairite take on Horatio whilst engaging in intensive stage combat. Matthew has also lent his voice to several abridged Shakespeare plays for Wordsmiths Audio, taking on a range of roles from the sly Duke Vicentio in Measure for Measure to the comic Dull in Love’s Labour’s Lost.

Matthew has often worked extensively with new writers to create new characters in original works such as Chase Banks in Three Wise Monkeys. Here, he worked extensively with fight and intimacy coordinators and his fellow cast members, to present a layered, sensitive portrayal of a gay couple in a BDSM-centric relationship.

In addition to acting, Matthew is an avid photographer, regularly shooting independent theatre productions on the fringe circuit. In his down time, he’s finding any excuse to pop down to the local cinema, working on his pull-up form in the gym, or practising his various voice impressions, much to the amusement/annoyance of his social circle.
